Armie isn’t afraid to bring down the hammer!

In the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, cover star Armie Hammer discusses his hot new film Call Me By Your Name, and the latest sexual misconduct scandals rocking Hollywood.

The 31-year-old specifically discusses the case of Nate Parker, co-star and director of 2016’s The Birth of a Nation.

In 1999, Parker and then-roommate Jean Celestin were accused of raping a woman while she was incoherent after a night of heavy drinking. Although Nate was tried in 2001, he was ultimately acquitted. The alleged victim committed suicide in 2012.

While The Birth of a Nation was expected to be a huge hit, the rape allegations resurfaced and tarnished the film’s reputation.

Hammer believes the timing of the headlines “was orchestrated for sure,” and was told by several people the identity of the person “who decided to release all of the phone records and information” to destroy the movie’s buzz.

While Hollywood has shunned Parker, they have embraced controversial actor Casey Affleck. Armie says:

“Nate had the stuff in his past, which is heinous and tough to get beyond. I get that… But that was when he was 18, and now he’s in directors jail. At the same time, the guy who went and won an Academy Award has three cases of sexual assault against him.”

When asked if he’s referring to Affleck, Hammer responds, “Yeah.”

“And [Parker] had one incident ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ which was heinous and atrocious ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ but his entire life is affected in the worst possible way. And the other guy won the highest award you can get as an actor. It just doesn’t make sense.”

In 2010, the Manchester By The Sea thespian was sued by two women after he inflicted numerous “uninvited and unwelcome sexual advances” on the set of I’m Still Here. He settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

Although one may argue Parker’s case is much more serious than Affleck’s, Armie still believes there is a double standard in Hollywood that needs to be addressed.

“Look… I’m not saying Nate should not have been in trouble. I’m saying that they got in different levels of trouble. And that’s the disparity. It’s like there are two standards for how to deal with someone who has this kind of issue in their past, you know?”
