Jeffrey Tambor has exited Transparent.

As we previously reported, there have been rumblings of an ousting ever since two women came forward with claims of sexual harassment against the celebrated actor. Tambor’s accusers included his former assistant, Van Barnes, and his costar, Trace Lysette.

While it was rumored on Friday that those in charge of the Amazon hit were prepared to move forward with season five sans Jeffrey, this piece of gossip has been proven to be TRUE as Jeffrey has come forward to announce his departure from the series. In a statement to Deadline on Sunday, the Arrested Development alum explained:

“Playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life. What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago.”

Yes, we’re sure it’s a change in the role which has driven you away from the Transparent set. *eye roll*

He continued:

“I’ve already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don’t see how I can return to Transparent.”

Although we should mention, prior to the dropping of the unsavory claims, Jeffrey’s option for season five had yet to be picked up. Regardless, Amazon is looking into the matter as they’re investigating both sexual harassment complaints. It’s said Amazon is currently speaking with creator Jill Soloway, members of production, and Tambor.

Soloway has stayed relatively tight-lipped amid this scandal as, during a panel in Hollywood on Saturday, she noted that she was “not able to say anything at all” about the drama. Still, Jeffrey’s accusers have found support from other Transparent bigwigs, as writer/producer Our Lady J publicly supported both women.

After thanking Trace for her “leadership,” the industry vet added that they “cannot let trans content be taken down by a single cis man.” Hear! Hear!

At the end of the day, we’re curious to see how the writers tackle Jeffrey’s departure from the show…
