Willow Smith Has Some Thoughts About How ‘Terrible’ It Is To Grow Up Famous

no title

It’s apparently been a tough and ‘terrible’ life for Willow Smith growing up in the spotlight as the daughter of famous parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

In a new interview released in a pub called Girl Gaze this week, Willow talked about what it was really like to grow up famous, and didn’t really hold back on shutting it down as a good childhood.

On what it was like to be a famous kid of famous parents coming through her formative years, Willow said (below):

“I’m going to be completely and utterly honest, it’s absolutely terrible. Growing up and trying to figure out your life ├óΓé¼┬ª while people feel like they have some sort of entitlement to know what’s going on, is absolutely, excruciatingly terrible ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and the only way to get over it, is to go into it. You can’t change your face. You can’t change your parents. You can’t change any of those things.”

Uh… inneresting…

And she goes on to talk more about fame and social media, being the daughter of famous parents in the digital/iPhone age, too (below):

“I feel like most kids like me end up going down a spiral of depression, and the world is sitting there looking at them through their phones, laughing and making jokes and making memes at the crippling effect that this lifestyle has on the psyche. When you’re born into it, there are two choices that you have: I’m either going to try to go into it completely and help from the inside, or no one is going to know where I am and I’m really going to take myself completely out of the eye of society. There’s really no in-between.”

Like… we get it. We get what she’s trying to say. It’s definitely “terrible” to grow up famous in the sense that you don’t get to figure out your own identity as much as an identity is forced upon you from your parents and whatever their fans and the rest of the world may think about them (and you).

TOTALLY understand that — and Willow is right!

But language choice matters too, here, right??

She’s taking a TON of heat because she said it was “terrible” to grow up famous… and all nuance gets lost because people think she’s ungrateful or whatever else.

Maybe next time, don’t talk about growing up famous? Avoid it all together?!

What would U do, Perezcious readers??
