Megyn Kelly, Kathie Lee Gifford, & Al Roker Speak Out As Details Emerge That Matt Lauer Allegedly Sexually Assaulted NBC Staffer During Sochi Winter Olympics

Matt Lauer

Buckle up, fam — we have a feeling this is just the beginning of what we’ll hear surrounding Matt Lauer‘s firing from NBC News.

As we reported, the Today show vet was terminated after the network received a compelling complaint about “inappropriate sexual behavior.”

Page Six is now reporting the alleged sexual assault occurred at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. An insider said:

“This happened so quickly. She didn’t go to the media, she made a complaint to NBC’s human resources, and her evidence was so compelling that Matt was fired on Tuesday night. The victim says she has evidence that this has also happened to other women, but so far we don’t have evidence of that.”

We’re sure more details will surface as the day goes on.

Meanwhile… Lauer’s colleagues continue to reel in the shocking news.

Al Roker didn’t have much to say just yet as he is “trying to process” the announcement about his friend of over 30 years.

Megyn Kelly introduced her show by saying that although Matt has been nothing but welcoming to her, we must support the courageous women coming forward with their stories. She said:

“This one does hit close to home. But when this happens what we don’t see is the pain on the faces of those who found the courage to come forward, and it’s a terrifying thing to do. We are in the middle of a sea change in this country. An empowerment revolution. As painful as this moment is for so many here at NBC today, at CBS earlier this month, at Fox News over the last year, in Hollywood this fall, it is a sign of progress. Of women finding their voices, their courage and of the erosion of a shameful power imbalance that has been in place for far too long.”

We already told you what Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb had to say earlier this morning, but Kathie Lee Gifford has since reacted to the news by expressing her adoration for Lauer.

She said during her hour on Today:

“I’m grappling with, should I even share something? But I guess I really should. I don’t feel that Matt has betrayed us in any way at all but when I found out that my husband had betrayed me, you question your own judgment. You say, ‘Was everything a lie?’ And I think we have to very much fight against that, that the man we know and adored was the man we loved and adored and continue to. I texted him this morning and said, ‘I adore you.’ No person is perfect in this world. We’ve all sinned and fallen short in the glory of God, is what the scripture says … And what we need now is forgiveness and mercy for one another. I send out my love to the person, whoever it is, that came forward. May God heal that person. I send it to Matt and his children and his wife, may God bless that family and heal.”

While we understand religion helped KLG after her husband’s affair — Matt Lauer’s situation is about ASSAULT. We can’t forget that.
