Angela Lansbury Slams Critics Of Her ‘Out Of Context’ Comments About Sexual Harassment & Assault

Angela Lansbury isn't here for the backlash!

Angela Lansbury is defending herself after making some controversial comments about women who have faced sexual harassment and assault!

In case you missed it, the actress said in a recent interview with Radio Times about how they’re sometimes not blameless because they “have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive.”

Unsurprisingly, her statement didn’t sit well with a lot of people.

On Wednesday night, the 92-year-old explained to Us Weekly her quotes were taken out of context:

“There is no excuse whatsoever for men to harass women in an abusive sexual manner. I am devastated that anyone should deem me capable of thinking otherwise. Those who have known the quality of my work and the many public statements I have made over the course of my life, must know, that I am a strong support of women’s rights. Lastly, I would like to add that I am troubled by how quickly and brutishly some have taken my comments out of context and attempted to blame my generation, my age, or my mindset, without having read the entirety of what I said.”

So, what exactly did she mean then when she previously said:

“We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped.”

Interesting. If this was taken out of context, perhaps Radio Times will respond…
