Matt Lauer was honestly blindsided by his sexual misconduct scandal and subsequent firing.
As you surely know, the disgraced newsman was given his pink slip at NBC News after a colleague came forward with a detailed complaint about Matt’s “inappropriate sexual behavior.” Despite the many women who’ve come forward with claims of sexual harassment against Lauer, it appears that the former Today show host believes he was taken down by a lover.
On the complainant who reported Matt to the higher ups at NBC, a source told People:
“…in [Lauer’s] mind, this had been a consensual affair. And a long-term one at that.”
How very Charlie Rose of Matt. Word to the wise, if you’re in a position of power, don’t come on to your employees. Smh.
In regards to how the scandalized journalist is handling the fall from grace, the insider added:
“He was totally devastated. He never thought it would get to this level.”
Apparently, the 59-year-old “was shocked and dumbfounded and completely bewildered by what happened.” The tipster noted:
“He never expected this. He had felt like he was invulnerable ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ like Superman… People who worked with him found him to be flirtatious, but that doesn’t mean he was necessarily inappropriate.”
Hmmm, it isn’t a good indication of his workplace behavior though. Just sayin’!
Although the woman who came forward at NBC has chosen to remain anonymous, her lawyer Ari Wilkenfeld shared the following on the harassment case:
“My client and I met with representatives from NBC’s Human Resources and Legal Departments at 6 p.m. on Monday for an interview that lasted several hours. Our impression at this point is that NBC acted quickly, as all companies should, when confronted with credible allegations of sexual misconduct in the workplace.
While I am encouraged by NBC’s response to date, I am in awe of the courage my client showed to be the first to raise a complaint and to do so without making any demands other than the company do the right thing.”
It’s believed that Lauer was also let go over inappropriate interactions with an intern during the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Gross.
Now that the TV personality has offered up an apology (of sorts), he is focusing on some much needed “soul searching” and hopes to repair the many relationships he has damaged. We’re guessing his wife, Annette Roque, has several questions that need answering.
All in all, it feels as though Lauer is officially canceled. Boy, bye!
