2017 has been a life changing year for Selena Gomez.
From releasing new music to producing 13 Reasons Why to bravely battling Lupus, it’s no wonder Billboard honored the former Disney darling as Woman of the Year at their 2017 Billboard Women In Music event. After such a daunting ’17, Selly G was understandably emotional while accepting her award.
Not to mention, Selena’s tears were brought on as bestie/kidney donor Francia Raisa presented her with the prize. Upon taking the stage, Gomez made sure to give Raisa a shout out for saving her life. We’re not crying, YOU ARE!
The A-lister went on to note that she feels “grateful” for her position and told the crowd that she doesn’t take her role model job for granted. Selena explained:
“I feel incredibly lucky. Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the position I’ve been given in my career… I want people to know I respect the platform that I have so deeply… Specifically this year, I would like to thank my amazing team and my family because they stuck with me through some really hard times. I got to do a lot this year, even though I had a couple of other things to do.”
Justin Bieber‘s love then paid tribute to the influential artists who came before her. She added:
“I’m so grateful for the older women who have lifted all of us up.”
Hear! Hear! After thanking everyone who has been there for her, Selena concluded:
“I don’t know how I’ll ever repay it but maybe I’ll make an epic album next year.”
