Matt Lauer‘s ousting has actually done the Today show good.
As you surely know, the seasoned newsman was fired from NBC News after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. One complaint came directly from a NBC colleague. Smh.
While the scandal has rocked the Today family to its core, it appears Lauer’s departure from the morning news program has resulted in higher ratings.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Today surpassed ABC‘s Good Morning America among total viewers. It’s said that the NBC program racked in an average of about 4.9 million viewers — a 14% increase from their average this season.
Not to mention, Today also scored 1.7 million viewers in the 25-54 news demographic. What a get!
On the day Matt’s termination was announced, Today shot up to 5.7 million viewers. This is understandable as the controversy made headlines across the globe!
In reality, a ruling about Today‘s success after Lauer should be measured in the weeks to come, especially since a successor has yet to be named. Be sure to stay tuned!!
