In fact, Kelly proved this point to be true when she discussed how different her off camera relationship with Seacrest is in comparison to the one she had with Regis Philbin. Oooh, go on.
In case you forgot, Miz Ripa joined Live! 16 years ago, back when Regis was running the show. During her cohosting days with the Bronx native, everyone used to applaud the on camera chemistry they had. However, while speaking with The New York Times, Ripa revealed that Regis was pretty strict about not talking to each other off camera.
Apparently, the industry vet didn’t want to waste good material if the cameras weren’t rolling. The 46-year-old explained:
“Regis had a mandate: Absolutely no talking off-camera. He had almost a superstition about it. You save it for the show. I’d be like, ├óΓé¼╦£Good morning,’ and he’d say, ├óΓé¼╦£Save it for the air!'”
Kelly went on to follow this mandate when Michael Strahan joined the team — we know, for Kelly’s sake, we feel bad even mentioning his name — but broke from tradition when the American Idol host took the reigns. Yup, Kelly now socializes off-camera with her cohost. The two regularly text each other and like to hang out on the weekends.
This explains why the former soap star had only glowing things to say about the media mogul. On Ryan’s contribution to Live!, Kelly gushed:
“He’s the future of the franchise. He’s the future of ABC.”
Awwwww. Seacrest clearly feels similarly, as he told the Times:
“If it were raining outside and there was a puddle, I’d want to stand in front of Kelly so she wouldn’t get wet. There’s that protection thing.”
So sweet. We’re glad to hear that things are going so well between the two TV personalities.
Hopefully, their dynamic can sustain as Ryan starts to juggle both Live! and Idol. Fingers crossed!!
