Senator John McCain is back in the hospital.
On Wednesday, the Arizona senator’s office released a statement to explain that McCain was hospitalized in order to deal with side effects related to his cancer treatment. Specifically, the seasoned politician is currently checked in at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland for “normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy.”
The statement elaborated:
“As ever, he remains grateful to his physicians for their excellent care, and his friends and supporters for their encouragement and good wishes. Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible.”
The public first learned of the 81-year-old’s health issues when he announced, back in July, that he was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma. The diagnosis came after the Vietnam War veteran underwent a craniotomy to remove a blood clot above his eye.
The senator has aggressively battled the cancer as he’s already completed his first round of chemotherapy treatment.
We can imagine this update has been particularly hard for daughter Meghan McCain. In fact, news of the senator’s hospitalization came the same day Meghan became emotional while talking about the illness on The View with Joe Biden. As you surely recall, the former Vice President’s son Beau passed away following a glioblastoma fight.
Cancer is such a bitch, man.
As always, our thoughts are with McCain and his loved ones during this hard time. Stay strong, senator!
