Justin Timberlake has tea to spill.

With the industry vet’s Super Bowl halftime show drawing closer, it only makes sense that Timberlake has cleared the air about his controversial ’04 halftime performance with Janet Jackson. For a candid chat with Beats 1‘s Zane Lowe, J.T. addressed how he handled the infamous wardrobe malfunction.

In case you forgot, during their routine, Justin “accidentally” exposed Janet’s breast on live TV. On powering through the scandalous performance, the Social Network actor admitted:

“Yeah and I stumbled through it, to be quite honest. I had my wires crossed, and it’s just something that you have to look back on and go, like, ‘OK, well, you know, you can’t change what’s happened but you can move forward and learn from it.'”

While fans still remember the iconic live performance like it was yesterday, Justin appears to have moved on from the controversy. When asked if he and Jackson have made amends all these years later, the Filthy artist noted:

“Absolutely… And I don’t know that a lot of people know that. I don’t think it’s my job to do that because you value the relationships that you do have with people.”

Well, that’s good to hear. And for those who think Nipplegate will be recreated at Super Bowl LII, know you’re absolutely wrong! The hitmaker added:

“It’s just one of those things were you go like, ├óΓé¼╦£Yeah, what do you want me to say? We’re not going to do that again.'”

There you have it. Justin didn’t just spill about his upcoming Super Bowl stint, as he also revealed why he stopped collaborating with The Neptunes, Pharrell and Chad Hugo‘s producing duo. After choosing to not give the “showbiz answer,” Timberlake spilled:

“I was not able to work with Pharrell out of a├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥and I’ve got to say this the right way because I don’t want to blame anybody for anything but it did change the course of things for a minute. Everyone remembers [the hip hop duo] Clipse. Clipse was signed to Jive Records, which I was signed to. I don’t know what went on with their deal, but I do remember that Pharrell was very adamant about getting them out of the deal. So it became from my understanding, you know, it became challenging for him to work with any Jive artist at that point.”

Justin went on to admit that he was “extremely hurt being caught up in the middle of it.” Why?? Well, at the time, he had just gotten out of a messy legal situation involving manager Lou Pearlman from his NSYNC days. He continued:

“I had already gone through, like, legal troubles and I kind of felt like, you know what, I’m at this point where I feel like I have so much ahead of me, I don’t want to be in the middle of the record label and somebody that, you know, I consider a friend. So, I feel like I kind of removed myself from the situation.”

Be sure to catch part one of Timberlake’s chat with Lowe as it airs tomorrow at 10 a.m. PST on Beats 1!!
