Katy Perry’s Record Label Admits To Having ‘Tough Conversations’ With The Singer Following Disappointing Witness Album Sales!

Well this has got to sting.

For a recent sit down with Variety, Capitol Music Group CEO and Chairman Steve Barnett spoke bluntly about the “tough conversations” he’s had with Katy Perry following the disappointing sales associated with her latest album, Witness. Eek.

Although Witness has sold 840,000 copies worldwide, the LP failed to really resonate with fans. While some may be baffled to learn that Perry’s new work hasn’t taken off, Barnett isn’t shocked one bit. In fact, he seems to know EXACTLY why the 33-year-old’s music has fallen flat.

The renowned music executive explained:

“It’s an interesting story. I love her and have forged a great relationship with her. I talk about how engagement is so important and I don’t believe you can have big cycles between projects [as Katy did]. I think that’s changed. And so you sit down and have tough conversations with her and management.”

We guess not EVERYONE can be Adele and come back with MULTIPLE chart toppers. Clearly, the time between Katy’s last two albums hinder her “engagement” with fans. We mean, in case you forgot, a report in 2013 stated that Perry’s Teenage Dream album sold 6 million copies worldwide.

Thankfully, the California gurl’s tour has fared far better than her album sales. In September 2017, Katy kicked off Witness: The Tour and it’s already estimated to have grossed $28.1 million.

This explains why Steve isn’t TOO concerned about Katy’s career. The music industry powerhouse even promised that the A-lister has a “plan” for her comeback:

“As successful as you’ve been, you learn. Personally I’ve learned more from our mistakes than our successes and I believe our artists are in the same category as that. But she has a plan, and we have a plan, and I feel good about it.”

Phew. We have a feeling Katy’s upcoming stint on the rebooted American Idol will help with her public profile.

Regardless, it’s still pretty embarrassing that Barnett spoke so publicly about Perry’s recent flop. Smh.
