FBI Admits That ‘Protocols Were Not Followed’ After Receiving Grave Tip About Florida School Shooter

fbi releases statement florida shooting

A major misstep occurred at the FBI, a mistake which could’ve prevented the recent school shooting in Parkland, FL.

In a recent statement, the law enforcement agency confirmed that they received a tip in January from a person close to gunman Nikolas Cruz. The warning sent to the agency expressed a concern that the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School alum might commit a school shooting.

Sadly, this warning never made it to the Miami field office to be investigated. FBI Director Christopher Wray noted:

“I am committed to getting to the bottom of what happened in this particular matter, as well as reviewing our processes for responding to information that we receive from the public.”

The informant also informed the FBI that Cruz owned guns, expressed a desire to kill people, displayed erratic behavior, and shared disturbing content on social media. The FBI has acknowledged their mistake in handling the tip, as the statement continued:

“We have determined that these protocols were not followed for the information received by the PAL on January 5. The information was not provided to the Miami field office, and no further investigation was conducted at that time.”

So awful.

Understandably, the federal agency feels regret for the way this situation was handled. Wray himself apologized, as he added:

“It’s up to all Americans to be vigilant, and when members of the public contact us with concerns, we must act properly and quickly. We have spoken with victims and families, and deeply regret the additional pain this causes all those affected by this horrific tragedy. All of the men and women of the FBI are dedicated to keeping the American people safe, and are relentlessly committed to improving all that we do and how we do it.”

If only this tip was taken seriously, 17 people’s lives could’ve been saved. We’re sure the deceased’s loved ones are eager for answers regarding this major mess up.

Stay tuned for any updates on this sad story.
