Lionel Richie has thoughts about his daughter Sofia Richie and her relationship with Scott Disick, and let’s just say Lionel is not exactly holding back and letting his daughter do what she wants without comment…
Speaking to Australia’s Daily Telegraph in an interview published on Saturday, Lionel called out Sofia’s boyfriend in a nice, but pointed way, and argued that his 19-year-old daughter is dating Scott temporarily and going through “just a phase” right now with their relationship.
Considering how healthy the relationship seems to be for Scott and Sofia, those comments have GOT to hurt!!
Here’s what Lionel said (below):
“She’s 19. When you’re 19 you know everything. Is it going to be for life? I don’t know. But for right now it’s just a phase and I’m going to stand real still in the corner, get me a good drink and not make too much noise. Now I know what my parents meant when I came through the door with my Afro and my girlfriend and said, ‘Dad, I’m in love’ and [he] looked at me and said, ‘Okay, we’re going to leave you alone for a minute and you’ll figure it out.’ My daughter is getting me back for my Afro days!”
Whoa… kinda funny, ultimately probably kinda true from a dad’s perspective, but also not the most supportive thing to say publicly about your very own daughter and her serious relationship!!!
Polite as ever, though, Lionel continued by praising Scott a little bit (below):
“From what I met of him he’s a very nice guy. When you hang around the reality world, who knows what you are really doing? This is a well-oiled machine, the Kardashian machine. I don’t really know what to think. I told Sofia I will have no opinion. I’ll continue to be my cheerful self and move on.”
Seems like being his “cheerful self” wouldn’t lead him to making remarks about Sofia’s relationship like that, but hey, maybe that’s just us!!!
Long term, Lionel may well be absolutely correct. But is this the best way to go about having that conversation???
Thoughts, Perezcious readers??
Let us know in the comments (below)!!!
