Keep Meryl Streep‘s name out of your mouth, Harvey Weinstein!
The celebrated actress fired back at the disgraced producer after his lawyers used her name and positive experience with him in an attempt to dismiss a class action lawsuit filed against him in December.
Weinstein’s lawyers filed the motion on Tuesday, arguing the class action status of the allegations was invalid because the claims would apply to “all women who ever met with Weinstein, regardless of whether they claimed to have suffered any identifiable harm,” including the 21-time Oscar nominee.
Along with mentioning Streep by name, the motion used a recent statement, in which the actress said Weinstein “had always been respectful to her in their working relationship,” to defend the accused rapist.
Naturally, the 68-year-old was outraged to discover her good name was being used in attempt to negate the experiences of over 80 women, and made it clear she finds the tactic “pathetic and exploitative.”
She said in a statement on Wednesday:
“Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys’ use of my (true) statement ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ that he was not sexually transgressive or physically abusive in our business relationship ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ as evidence that he was not abusive with many OTHER women is pathetic and exploitive. The criminal actions he is accused of conducting on the bodies of these women are his responsibility, and if there is any justice left in the system he will pay for them ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ regardless of how many good movies, made by many good people, Harvey was lucky enough to have acquired or financed.”
Yas, Queen of Hollywood! *Hands her another Oscar*
One thing’s clear: Weinstein will never stop using women to get what he wants.
