Gary Oldman‘s son will NOT let his mother’s long discredited accusations ruin his dad’s moment of glory!
The 20-year-old issued a lengthy statement that slammed “clickbait journalism” and denounced his mother, Donya Fiorentino, for perpetuating what he says are completely false claims.
Reiterating that Fiorentino’s allegations of domestic violence had been “discredited and thrown away years ago,” Gulliver explained:
“For me to write this letter is direct proof of this. Custody of children is not given to a wife beater, and under most circumstances, hardly ever a man. My having lived, full time with my father should be in itself, proof enough.”
The Darkest Hour star’s son added that while he is a supporter of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, his mother’s allegations are simply not true — and he would know:
“I can see how coming out with a statement to combat an allegation must look. However, I was there at the time of the ├óΓé¼╦£incident,’ so I’d like to make this radiantly clear: it didn’t happen. Anyone who says it did is lying.”
In the resurfaced Daily Mail interview Gulliver referenced in his statement, Fiorentino called her four year marriage to Oldman a “nightmare.” She also spoke to TMZ after her ex won the Best Actor Oscar on Sunday, telling the outlet:
“I thought we had evolved. What happened to the #MeToo movement?”
Shortly after the couple separated in 2001, the former model filed court docs accusing the actor of assaulting her in front of their two children, Gulliver and his younger brother Charlie. The Dark Knight actor was granted primary custody of both children, with supervised visits for Fiorentino.
However, in his statement, Gulliver noted that he has not spoken with his mother in seven years. Though he does not want to speak ill of her, he admitted:
“She has been a sad and very troubled person most of her life. Yes, she brought me into this world. She didn’t however, teach me how to be a part of it.”
Gulliver’s statement concluded by paying tribute to his dad, a “hero” whom he has nothing but wonderful things to say about:
“I want only to protect my father’s character, as a person and as an actor. I know he is a wonderfully kind man, gifted beyond belief, a man who wouldn’t trade anything for the love and happiness of his family. This torment should have ended 16 years ago. In such a momentous year for his career, my father should finally be able to enjoy himself. I hope that we can please make that a possibility.”
Will Gulliver’s strong words put an end to his mother’s allegations? Will Gary Oldman EVER be able to enjoy himself?
Stay tuned to find out!
