Today marks the release of the very first episode of The goop Podcast from Gwyneth Paltrow, and the star brought on arguably the best guest you could possibly get for a long interview like this: Oprah Winfrey.
The two had an hour-long conversation about a ton of different topics (you can listen to the full thing HERE), but the key takeaway centers on Oprah really opening up about her relationship with disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.
Winfrey has known Weinstein for a long time, and even as seemingly un-ending sexual misconduct allegations came out against him over the past several months, many have wondered whether Oprah ever knew exactly what was going on behind closed doors.
Well, the TV legend set the record straight for Paltrow and everyone else today, acknowledging this (below):
“What I knew was Harvey was a bully. Was I friendly with Harvey? Yes, I was friendly with Harvey. … Of course, I didn’t know any of this was going on.”
That’s pretty similar to previous comments she’s made about being disgusted by Weinstein’s behavior, while also denying that she ever knew specifics of what took place.
Furthermore, the TV icon revealed to Paltrow that Weinstein actually used some of his bullying tactics on her — to try to book the stars of his films on her hit talk show.
Oprah looked at the bigger picture in the convo with Paltrow, though, laying down the law about sexual misconduct and sexual harassment in a way we can all get behind (below):
“I think where this movement will eventually lead us to is not accepting any kind of behavior that disparages you as a human being. Why am I willing to put up with an asshole? Not only am I not going to take your sexual harassment, I’m not going to take any of your bullshit, period.”
What do y’all think, Perezcious readers!?
