A prominent 52-year-old South Korean actor was found dead of an apparent suicide on Friday, just days before he was supposed to present himself to police for questioning in an ongoing sexual misconduct investigation.

Jo Min-ki, pictured above in a screenshot from his role in the well-known Korean film The Attorney (2013), was found by his wife hanged in a parking lot at his home in Seoul.

Jo was a well-known TV and film actor and a university drama teacher at Cheongju University in Korea.

Several months ago, he was accused of sexual harassment by a drama student at the University, and while Jo denied it at first, multiple other students came forward with accusations of both harassment and assault.

Eventually, Jo Min-ki was dismissed from his teaching position at the university’s drama school. He was also edited out of a TV role he had been filming.

According to local reports, on Monday, Jo was supposed to present himself to Korean prosecutors for questioning over the sexual harassment and sexual assault allegations. And now, he’s dead.

The #MeToo Movement has swept through Korea in recent months, with several very high-profile men — like director Kim Ki-duk and actor Cho Jae-hyun — having become the focal point on serious abuse and harassment accusations.
