American Idol Sees A ‘Significant Drop’ In TV Ratings For The Reboot’s Second Sunday — Numbers HERE!

Uh-oh — a sign of bad things to come???

Sunday marked the start of the second week of the American Idol reboot on ABC, and compared to its first go on TV just a week before, Sunday night’s numbers sure don’t look very good!

Helmed by new judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, the rebooted Idol drew 7.7 million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49 years old in its second Sunday out yesterday evening.

That marks a drop of a respective 26 percent and 24 percent for each number relative to the previous Sunday — whoa!!! A quarter of the viewers and a quarter of the rating in the key demo just… gone!

Even comparing last night’s ep to last Monday’s show, the reality competition show was still down incrementally in the key demo, though somewhat more steady.

Of course, there are already heavy-hitters out there in the genre, like, um, The Voice, and Idol is no doubt feeling the heat from them.

Furthermore you probably should at least partially take into account the reality that college basketball — you know, March Madness — is in full swing, and CBS is seeing a huge bump from that after a big weekend of games.

March Madness will end in a couple weeks, though, and beyond that Idol won’t have as clear cut an excuse if ratings continue to middle — or even slip further.
