On Monday, the city of Asheville, North Carolina, released “disturbing, difficult to watch” body cam videos providing more insight into the August 2017 arrest of Johnnie Jermaine Rush. To catch you up, Rush was beaten, choked, and tased by an Asheville police officer Christopher Hickman who suspected him of jaywalking.
Yep, that’s right, jaywalking.
Earlier this year, a shorter clip obtained by a local newspaper sparked anger in the community and eventually helped lead to assault charges against Hickman last month.
In the footage you can see Hickman restrain Rush by his neck, then punching and shocking him with a stun gun. You can also hear Rush yelling for help and saying, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe.”
If you can stomach it, watch the violent footage (below):
Police brutality must be stopped.
