What a get for Wendy Williams!

On Wednesday morning, Cynthia Nixon stopped by Wendy’s nationally syndicated talk show to give her first TV interview since launching her gubernatorial campaign. It only makes sense that the NY governor hopeful stop by the Wendy Williams Show as it’s New York AF.

And the 53-year-old didn’t hold back with her line of questioning, as she asked Cynthia to address all of the chatter about the Sex & The City alum being just a “celebrity candidate.” On those questioning her qualifications, the New York native noted:

“People talk a lot to me about being a celebrity entering this race, but I have to say when Andrew Cuomo ran eight years ago, he was a celebrity because he was the son of Mario Cuomo . . . and I think that for me, I am running as a New Yorker.”

In case you were unaware, in addition to her successful acting career, Cynthia has participated in political work that has spanned almost two decades. She continued:

“I am running as a New Yorker, a public-school parent . . . I’m running as a New York City subway rider, but also I have been fighting for better and particularly more equal funding of New York state’s public schools for the last 17 years. And I’ve been going up to Albany talking to legislatures and speaking out, and this year I finally decided the definition of insanity is doing something over and over and over and expecting a different result. If you want it done you actually have to get in there and do it yourself.”

Well said. In regards to why she desires the governor’s seat, Nixon shared that Donald Trump‘s election was a “real wake up call” and inspired her to get “involved like never before.” *Snaps*

Of course, Wendy didn’t limit her questions to just political talk, as she also had her guest discuss some SATC drama. No, she didn’t address the Kim Cattrall / Sarah Jessica Parker beef. Rather, Cynthia revealed she wasn’t a fan of the Sex & The City 2 scene where Mr. Big debuts the big closet he built for Carrie Bradshaw:

“I was a little devastated by that; it seemed to me the show was so much about female empowerment and women making their own choices and standing up for what they wanted and supporting themselves. To have this be a climax of the film that your very wealthy husband built closet for your clothes? I thought wow; that’s not really what you love about the show. ‘Cause that’s not what we were making it for.”

See?? Cynthia is a feminist through and through!
