Remember the end of Frost/Nixon when Nixon says “When the president does it, it’s not illegal”? And it’s this big gotcha moment because he’s admitting he thinks he’s above the law?
Well, if ever the term Stupid Watergate applied, it’s today, as Donald Trump said with not an ounce of shame on Twitter that he has the “absolute right” to pardon himself for any crimes he commits, something his lawyers seemed to imply as well in a letter to Robert Mueller this weekend.

For the rest of us this was settled in 800 fucking years ago when the Magna fucking Carta said even kings had to obey the law of the land.
We fought the Revolutionary War against unjust rule, and the entire inspiration of the U.S. Constitution was to uphold the principle that everyone has to follow the same rules.
But this asshole says he’s the exception. He wrote:

OK, let’s disregard the “I have done nothing wrong” bullshit for a minute. This Witch Hunt has already led to 17 indictments and 5 guilty pleas.
Over the weekend Trump’s lawyers even admitted he dictated Donald Trump Jr.‘s first statement about the Trump Tower meeting with Russian agents, something they denied for months and which may in itself constitute obstruction of justice.
Basically now they’re moving from the “I didn’t do it” stage to the “who cares if I did it, it’s not a crime” stage — and prepping for the “who cares if it’s a crime, I have pardon power” one.

And let’s breeze by the fact just about everyone conducting the investigation has been a Republican, including Mueller, James Comey, and Rod Rosenstein, who Trump himself appointed.

Let’s focus on this bullshit that he can pardon himself.
Basically he’s now saying he can shoot someone in Times Square and not only will he not lose his fanatical base — he can’t even go to jail!
This is a lie.
But not just a Trump lie. This is the most dictatorial move he’s made yet.
And if you want a president and not a president-for-life, you need to speak up.
