#TreasonSummit Trends On Twitter After Trump Publicly Sides With Russia Over Cyber Attacks — Even Republicans Noticed!
Still don’t think Donald Trump is in Putin‘s pocket?
During his press conference with the infamously corrupt Russian president, not to mention a 130-minute one-on-one meeting behind closed doors, the POTUS proved where his loyalties lie.
When asked about Russia’s cyber attacks on our country and meddling in the 2016 election, Trump once again said all he can do is ask, and Putin said he didn’t do it — and that the former KGB leader’s word was good enough for him.
Furthermore, he said he holds “both countries responsible” for poor relations and said “the United States has been foolish.”
Yeah. He blamed us. HE BLAMED HIS OWN FUCKING COUNTRY FOR BEING ATTACKED. THE FUCKING PRESIDENT.
Watch some of the horrifying moments being labeled the #TreasonSummit and see the strongest Twitter reactions (below)!
Reporter: Do you hold Russia accountable for anything?
Pres. Trump on Russia meddling into U.S. election: “Pres. Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today, and what he did is an incredible offer—he offered to have the people working on the case come and work with their investigators.” https://t.co/HERDboeaJt pic.twitter.com/QE12aUIJ6Y

Pres. Trump says intelligence community believes Russia was behind 2016 election interference, but Pres. Putin says Russia was not.
Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of “high crimes & misdemeanors.” It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???

This is a betrayal to the oath of office. Donald Trump is clearly under the control of Moscow. To him Putin & the oligarchy are his political base & he will always side with them. No doubt this is why #TreasonSummit is trending #1 today #SaveDemocracy https://t.co/djHKfV4UJS

Ok, that’s treason! Seriously. I’m not joking. I’m calling this treason. Point. Blank. Period. TREASON.
— Charles M. Blow (@CharlesMBlow) July 16, 2018
I don’t even know what to say. Today was a disgrace. @realDonaldTrump embarrassed America and should be ashamed of himself. Shame on anyone who chooses to ignore Russia’s interference in our democracy for the sake of Trump’s political well-being. I’m at a complete loss.

If you really don’t think Trump is in Putin’s pocket after he agrees with Putin over every US national security & law enforcement agency on the world stage, you’re blind. This is a betrayal to our country. Trump is a traitor & should be impeached. #TreasonSummit. https://t.co/dWtWXdg49s

It’s a fact that Russia attacked our democracy in 2016 to influence the presidential election in favor of Trump. Today Trump sided with Putin over our own intelligence & law enforcement officials & blamed the US for Russia’s attacks. Every American should be outraged. #Helsinki

Goddamnit. I can’t stop thinking about this. It’s heartbreaking. Our leader is saying fuck you to every intelligence agency we have and siding with the enemy. It’s that simple and he should be removed.
— Albert Brooks (@AlbertBrooks) July 16, 2018
Trump just committed treason. There is no other word for it. He just met with the Osama bin Laden of this generation. Someone who is currently still attacking Americans at this very moment. Trump must resign and get the hell out of the White House, NOW! #TreasonSummit

Dear @realDonaldTrump: I don’t care if Putin rode in on a horse, ripped off his shirt and made a “powerful” denial. Your acceptance of Putin’s talking points & your attack on US institutions was obscene.
Today was the day Vladimir Putin finally became President

Today’s #TreasonSummit was so upsetting to Paul Ryan, he is going to have no choice but to propose cutting Social Security, Medicare, welfare, the top tax rate, support for healthcare and funding for Planned Parenthood.
— The Hoarse Whisperer (@HoarseWisperer) July 16, 2018
Speaking of Paul Ryan, even some Republicans made statements against it:
I never thought I would see the day when our American President would stand on the stage with the Russian President and place blame on the United States for Russian aggression. This is shameful.

Today’s press conference in #Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory.
Republican Sen. Bob Corker on President Trump’s press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin: “I did not think this was a good moment for our country… There’s no question that Putin interfered in the elections… That’s not debatable.” https://t.co/VBdMpvXCmE pic.twitter.com/2iyNx1HwCN

Though many agree it’s not enough to make a statement but continue to allow Trump to do everything he wants…
You could end this today. @GOP. You could caucus with the Dems and figure out a way to remove a President who’s just committed blatant treason in full view. But you’ll just be “disappointed” and move on, won’t you?
— Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) July 16, 2018
4. Hold hearings on what has and hasn’t been done to protect America from Russia
5. Subpoena the interpreter to find out what Trump actually said to Putin
6. Pass a joint resolution saying Russia interfered in the elections to help Trump
— Dan Pfeiffer (@danpfeiffer) July 16, 2018
But Anderson Cooper perhaps gave the purest reaction, commenting live just as the press conference ended:
“You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader certainly than I’ve ever seen.” – Anderson Cooper on Trump-Putin summit pic.twitter.com/xHbmAZl0y3
