Eva Mendes On What Changed Her Mind About Having Kids: 'Ryan Gosling Happened'

Eva Mendes talks kids with Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes is here to confirm that even those who don’t want to have babies still want to have Ryan Gosling’s babies.
In a new interview for Women’s Health‘s May 2019 issue, the 45-year-old actress spoke on how falling in love with the Oscar nominee changed her entire perspective on having a family. For those who don’t know, the couple started dating in 2011 and now have two daughters, 4-year-old Esmeralda and 2-year-old Amada.
For Mendes, motherhood is the greatest joy in the world. But before Gosling was in the picture, the Hitch star said having children was “the furthest thing from [her] mind”!

When asked by the mag what had changed her outlook, Mendes quipped:

“Ryan Gosling happened… I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have… not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.”

We mean… when Ryan Gosling wants to put a baby in you, there’s really only one response…

Unlike other celeb couples, Mendes and Gosling have managed to keep their relationship out of the limelight. They rarely talk about each other in interviews and make a point to not attend red carpet events together — even the big ones.
Mendes was notably absent from the 2017 Golden Globes ceremony when her 38-year-old husband won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role in La La Land. But Gos still made his speech memorable for them both by praising his “sweetheart” for helping her late brother, Juan Carlos Mendez, during his battle with cancer.

Hearing her hubby give her brother, who died of throat cancer in April 2016, a shout out on television made Eva fall in love with her man all over again. She recalled:

“It was like a dream. But really, what I heard was that he said my brother’s name. It was the most beautiful gesture, and I had no idea Ryan was going to say it. Losing my brother was incredibly difficult.”

It can also be incredibly difficult to raise children while working in the entertainment industry.
As for how she handles raising her two girls, Mendes admitted she tries to keep them from seeing the “actress” side of herself, explaining:

“What I try to emphasize is that I don’t let them see me put attention to how I dress. They’ve never seen me get ready for something; they’ve never seen me at work. Which is fine, for whoever wants to do it that way, but the way I keep it normal is by not letting them see me in these situations. I’m just Mom. And I’m more than happy to just be Mom.”

…Especially Mom to Ryan Gosling’s children.

Mendes loves being mom so much, in fact, she confessed she’s more focused on raising her girls than maintaining her career in Hollywood, adding:

“I felt a lack of ambition, if I can be honest. I feel more ambitious in the home right now than I do in the workplace.”
