Jeremy Scott Upsets With Gigi Hadid 'Illegal Alien' Joke -- But Is He In The Right??

no title
Jeremy Scott drew controversy on Monday — and it may be exactly what he wanted!
The Moschino designer began posting photos from his new Alien Nation campaign — in which the models are painted to look like something out of Star Trek — and several fans thought he was making light of the way immigrants are being treated by the U.S. government at the moment.

Along with a link to a photo of Gigi Hadid, painted blue and adorned in ’60s chic, he quipped on Twitter:

“The only thing illegal about this alien is how good she looks!”

Considering Donald Trump has literally taken hundreds of children from their parents and put them in literal cages, you can see how some people might find Scott’s flippancy on the subject a bit off-color, so to speak:

Are they right? Or being overly sensitive?
Either way, the controversy may be good for Scott, who admits he’s trying to draw attention to the crisis with his campaign — and he’s firmly on the side of immigrants.
In the caption on Instagram, he adds more context, explaining:

“WHAT IS AN “ALIEN?” THE CONCEPT OF MY AD CAMPAIGN IS TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE US ADMINISTRATION’S HARSH STANCE TOWARDS ‘ILLEGAL ALIENS.’ I PAINTED THE MODELS IN MY SHOW AND THIS CAMPAIGN AS A WAY TO OPEN A DISCUSSION ON WHAT EXACTLY AN ‘ALIEN’ IS – ARE THEY ORANGE BLUE YELLOW GREEN? DOES THIS MATTER? THEY ARE OUR FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, CO WORKERS, RELATIVES AND PEOPLE WE LOVE.”

That is a really nice sentiment. Was it worth the bad joke?
