Kate Spade‘s friend, Cornelia Guest, is speaking out.
As we reported, the handbag designer was found in her New York apartment on Tuesday after she reportedly hung herself. The 55-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later reports came out that before her sudden death, the fashion legend and husband Andy Spade were having “relationship problems.”
While The Blast said David Spade‘s brother was looking for a new one- or two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan because of marital issues, TMZ added that Andy wanted a divorce, and had already been living separately before Kate’s passing. It’s said Kate did not want to break up.
In a People article published on Wednesday, Guest — actress and longtime family friend — told the publication that she never witnessed any such discord between the two. She revealed:
“They seemed to be the perfect, happy family… Nobody knows what’s going on with someone. When the doors close, you never know.”
According to Guest, Kate and Andy were “a very social couple,” primarily for the sake of their business.
“I knew her from being in New York for years and years… We saw each other all the time. They were a very social couple, but you have to go out for business, of course. It’s a rat race. You don’t create a brand like that sitting on your ass. It’s her name on the door, no matter who you are working for.”
Guest also said the fashionista had a very loving relationship with her 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix:
“They were so close. She was just a cute little girl.”
Overall, Cornelia remembers the Kate Spade New York co-founder as “beautiful and elegant and charming.”
“It’s so sad. She was beautiful and elegant and charming. She stayed true to form. She was always smiling, always happy, she had beautiful manners, and she always looked beautiful.”
She adds:
“Every girl wanted to have a piece of Kate Spade. She was such an inspiration. It was aspirational and charming and whimsical and elegant. I still saw her around after the sale of her brand. Any time you create something like that, it’s got to be hard to step away. She was always creating.”
Kate will be missed.
