Could there finally be some change made to the way the paparazzi operate?
It looks that way, at least in some parts of California.
Some officials in Los Angeles are deciding to take tougher action and make stricter regulations.
This Thursday, officials from West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, and even Calabasas are gathering for the first time to discuss how they will try to control the paparazzi.
The group’s goal is for each city to create it own ordinances against all aggressive paparazzi. There will also be some uniform laws placed in locations like where celebrities live, work, and hangout.
Guess it might be safe to finally drive down Robertson Blvd during the day!
Dennis Zine, a Los Angeles City Councilman, says “This is a response to their lack of responsible behavior.”
Zine is also the one who earlier this year proposed a “personal safety zone” around celebs to protect them from the paps. Especially with paparazzi trespassing onto private property, such as with Halle Berry and Brangelina.
Zine adds in comparison to the desired paparazzi regulations, “You can smoke, but you can’t smoke in certain areas. You can go 55 miles-per-hour, but you can’t do it in a school zone. So we’re not saying you can’t take the picture.”
Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, says “As it stands today, the sheriff’s department is confident and comfortable that the laws that exist provide enough to ensure the safety and security of residents.”
This is all good, but….
We must also balance this with protecting the photogs’ first amendment rights!
