We’re certainly glad he came around.

In a preview for this weekend’s CBS This Morning, Rory Feek admitted that he struggled to accept that his adult daughter Hopie is gay.

The singer could tell his daughter had something to tell him shortly after his wife, Joey, passed away from terminal cancer a couple of years ago. When he inquired, he was shocked at her response due to his conservative background.

The country musician said in the interview:

“I said, ‘Just tell me, Hopie.’ And she went on to tell me that her friend Wendy was more than her friend, that Wendy and [she] had been dating for almost a year. And that she was in love.”

The 53-year-old went on:

“And my first reaction, honestly, was I don’t know. Because my conservative Christian faith that saved me — the first reaction is that challenges that immensely. Am I supposed to shun my child now and say, ‘No, you can’t be in my life until you come around to thinking like I’m thinking?’ “

During the interview, Hopie said she was nervous to tell her father out of fear for judgement. And she could see “panic” register on his face after she broke the news.

Feek has since woken up to the times, and realizes that his only job is to “love” his daughter:

“The only thing I try to keep in mind is it’s her life, it’s her choice, it’s her faith. And my job is to love her even when it’s hard.”

We’re all here to teach each other something, right?

We’re happy to hear these conversations are being had! And congratulations to Hopie for having the courage to share her truth!!

And per our stalking, it looks like this relationship is pretty serious as she’s been wedding dress shopping with her sister, Heidi (below)!!

Love is love!!!
