What a nail biter!
The senate race in Minnesota between Norm Coleman and Al Franken is far from over.
As of Wednesday, Coleman, the incumbent Republican senator led the Deomocrat challenger and former SNL player, Franken, by ONLY 477 votes!
And, according to Minnesota law, recounts are required in races with a winning margin of less than one-half of 1 percent, although a losing candidate may request that it not go forward.
Franken announced his support for a recount and said that his campaign was investigating alleged voting irregularities at some polling places in Minneapolis, “Let me be clear: Our goal is to ensure that every vote is properly counted.”
He also went on to say that “a recount could change the outcome significantly.”
However, Coleman urged Franken to waive his right to a recount, saying that the prospect of changing the result was remote and that the $86,000 ‘cost’ of a recount would be costly to taxpayers.
It’s 477 votes. 477!
That’s a miniscule margin, Coleman!
If Minnesota really needs money to cover the cost we’re sure a ton of people would be willing to donate to the cause of democracy!
Where should we send our checks?
