The 19 Arizona firefighters killed in Yarnell Hill were honored with a long, somber procession on Sunday.
The remains of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew were transported home to Prescott Valley, AZ.
The reported 100-mile procession, led by white hearses, was greeted by a crowd of thousands as it rolled through downtown Phoenix and later Prescott.
Civilians and fellow firefighters alike came from all over to pay their respects. Flagstaff fire captain Bill Morse said:
“It’s overwhelming to watch this slow procession of 19 hearses. The ceremonious air of it all. It’s heartbreaking.”
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday. Individual funeral services for each of the firefighters’ families will be held privately throughout the week. Our hearts go out to them.
