7-Year-Old Girl Dies In Custody At Border

It was only a matter of time before this happened.
We’ve all seen how the children of migrants are being treated at the border. Their parents travel from troubled areas to the United States seeking a better life for them — and they end up in damned cages like animals.
Children have been separated from their parents, bussed to other states under cover of night, and shoved into what look like concentration camps.
A week ago, one migrant child lost her life.

According to a shocking report in The Washington Post on Thursday, 7-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin from Guatemala died of septic shock, fever, and dehydration.
Jakelin and her father were part of a group of 163 migrants who turned themselves in to Border Patrol just south of Lordsburg, New Mexico. They apparently had not had food or water in days.
The Post reports “food and water are typically provided to migrants in Border Patrol custody” but says it’s “unclear” whether she was given any care whatsoever.
After about eight hours in custody she began having seizures. Only then was she given medical treatment; emergency technicians reported her body temperature was already 105.7 degrees.
It was too late. She went into cardiac arrest and died less than 24 hours after being admitted to an El Paso hospital.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection only went public with the story after it broke in the Post late Thursday — and they are refusing to take any responsibility.
During a briefing, an official said the girl had an initial medical screening in which she showed no symptoms.
After DAYS with no water, a doctor couldn’t tell? Or was this “screening” just a glance from a patrol officer?
The father signed a document stating his daughter had no medical issues, but it was in English. How can we be sure he knew what he was signing? Not to mention, HE’S NOT A DOCTOR! There’s no way a proper medical exam wouldn’t have determined this little girl was in danger.
With record numbers of children being taken into custody under Donald Trump‘s racist policies, are they just shoving them along like so much cattle??
The CBP, the White House, and the Department of Homeland Security are all blaming the girl’s death on her father’s decision to bring her to the U.S.

Do they not have any empathy? The journey here is a dangerous undertaking by desperate people.
They’re acting like these people fleeing danger are bringing their kids along for an armed bank robbery!
Maybe you don’t think the United States should continue to encourage immigration, as it has for decades — maybe you think that whole American dream, “bring me your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” stuff isn’t an important part of our country’s identity. Maybe you’d rather us cut ourselves off from the world by building big, ridiculous walls.
But WHO could possibly be OK with treating a sick child like a criminal? Shoving her into a cage until she succumbs??
How could it possibly matter to you where she’s from???
