Our favorite day in Israel thus far!
On Thursday, we had the true privilege and pleasure to fully immerse ourselves in the magical city that is Old Jerusalem.
So special – for Judaism, Christianity AND Islam!
Whatever you believe in, it’s undeniable that so many people believe in the special place that is this city, and where there is so much believing – there is energy.
The energy is so strong in Jerusalem. We could literally feel it and it brought us to tears at the Western Wall, the most holy place in all of Judaism.
We believe in believing. We believe in energy. We believe in love. We believe in tradition, and – yes – we put a little piece of paper with some big thoughts on them in that Wall.
Prayers/dreams/wishes/desires/needs.
We hope they come true!
Thankfully, there were several Bar Mitzvah celebrations at the Western Wall when we were there. Being surrounded by that joy was great!
We choose to focus on the positive and hope that peace can really exist one day in all these regions – and all over the world too.
Jerusalem is such a fascinating city. It’s been built and destroyed and built and destroyed countless times.
There is history upon history buried here. Yet it all comes to the surface in places like the Church Of The Holy Sepulcher, which we were able to visit. A church unlike any other we had ever seen before!
Exemplifying the beautiful chaos that is found here, the Holy Sepulcher is divided on the inside into sections for the the Greek Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church and the Armenian Church.
Everybody gets a piece!
Though it’s been around for centuries before Christ, parts of Old Jerusalem are not very old at all, like the Jewish quarter, much of which was destroyed during war last century. It was fascinating to see, though, the remnants from the ancient times in the Cardo marketplace, which were found during excavations when the Jewish Quarter was being rebuilt.
We strolled along the stations of the cross and the Via Dolorosa.
We visited the Garden Of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations.
We paid a visit to the local bazaars and markets.
We viewed the city from Mount Zion and just soaked it all in as much as we could.
Jerusalem! Just wow.
