Hilton Guest Suing Hotel Over 75 Cents For A Newspaper

Hilton Hidden Fee

First off, we can see where this guy is coming from. Any kind of hidden charges or intended shady tactics are NOT cool when it comes to the cost of things. Especially when probably almost everyone assumes the newspaper left in front of hotel room doors is free.

But, this level of outrage over 75 cents seems a little much. BUT the better reason, of course, which has been added to the litigation, is that it isn’t good for the environment to use so many papers that people are probably not reading anymore:

Rodney Harmon, 55, of Sacramento said he visited the Hilton Garden Inn Sonoma County Airport on March 28 and saw a copy of USA Today outside his door.

“He did not request a newspaper and assumed it had been placed there by hotel staff,” said the suit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. Harmon didn’t realize until later that a 75-cent charge for the paper had been added to his bill.

Harmon accused Hilton of deliberately hiding the newspaper charge by describing the fee in an “extremely small font which is difficult to notice or read” on the sleeve of the room card.

And then the lawsuit goes on to talk about the environmental implications, calling them an, “offensive waste of precious resources and energy.” Which, like we said, are a much better reason to take issue with than the 75 cents. Though we understand his frustration over shady fees, no matter the size.

It’ll be interesting to see who else jumps on this lawsuit, as it’s being filed as class-action.

Do U still read the newspaper??
