We didn’t realize this many people went to see The Smurfs! Ha!
We’re very pleased to report that this summer’s domestic box office was record-breaking with $4.4 billion, which just barely beat out the 2009 record of $4.33 billion by 1%!
Even more impressive were the overseas numbers, which were up 41% to $8.2 billion!!!!!
Here’s what National Association of Theater Owners president/CEO John Fithian had to say about the numbers:
├óΓé¼┼ôIn the mist of 9% unemployment and a continuing weak economy, it is striking that the movie theater industry can continue to grow revenues and admissions.”
Such great news! Should be interesting to see if these numbers hold up next year.
Given the fact that The Dark Knight Rises will be coming out, we’d say 2012 could very well have another huge summer!
