The Citadel, a SC military college, has been under scrutiny lately for their lack of proper action after they found out one of their camp counselors engaged in sexual abuse with children.
A former camper went to Citadel officials back in 2007 to tell them about Louis “Skip” ReVille, then 19, forcing the child to look at porn while Reville masturbated. He also pressured the child to join in, which he did reluctantly. The camper claims there were at least five other abused children he knew of.
After the interview, the school did not pursue the case any further because the family didn’t. But now they regret that decision.
School president, Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. John Rosa, said:
We’re profoundly sorry, sorry that we didn’t pursue it more. We acted on what we thought was our best information. When the family did not pursue the matter, we did not either. We should have. Regardless of whether the law said we were supposed to report or not, we should have reported this. We should have taken more action.
Reville has since been arrested and plead guilt to at least three counts. His lawyer says he is very sorry for what he has done.
Yikes! What an icky situation all around. We hope this doesn’t ever happen again.
