Let’s hope he makes it out ok!

At 76 years old, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy is undergoing surgery today at Duke Medical Center for his cancerous brain tumor.

He’ll then have to deal with chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Kennedy spokesman, Anthony Cole, that the surgery would begin around 9:00am and last about six hours.

Kennedy will need to stay at the hospital for a week following the surgery to allow him to recuperate.

He’s set to begin further treatments and start chemotherapy at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

In the statement, Kennedy expressed, “I am deeply grateful to the people of Massachusetts and to my friends, colleagues and so many others across the country and around the world who have expressed their support and good wishes as I tackle this new and unexpected health challenge. I am humbled by the outpouring and am strengthened by your prayers and kindness.”

And looking towards the future, Kennedy adds, “I look forward to returning to the United States Senate and to doing everything I can to help elect Barack Obama as our next president.”

Talk about an endorsement!
