You may remember the now infamous story of Jaycee Dugard, the girl who was kidnapped at age 11 and held prisoner for 18 years, while having two of her kidnapper’s children.
Now 31, Jaycee is speaking out and recently made her first public appearance since the whole HORRIFIC ordeal.
This past Friday, Dugard was recognized with the Inspiration Award at fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg’s DVF Awards, which honors women for their leadership and philanthropic roles. Jaycee spoke of her mother’s inspiration and strength which helped her overcome and of her JAYC Foundation, which helps fellow families who’ve also dealt with abduction.
Jaycee states:
“My hope is to be remembered for what I do, not to what happened to me.├óΓé¼┬¥
Another inspirational woman, Oprah Winfrey, received the DVF Lifetime Leadership award at the ceremony and was humbled to meet Dugard and praised her for her strength.
Oprah told Jaycee:
“I am so proud of you. You are using your courage and your strength and your power to show the world that you care.”
We are proud of you too, Jaycee! We are certain that you speaking out about what happened to you will help others to recover from similar situations.
