Hunger Games Brings In $214 Million Globally It's First Weekend!!

So exciting!
Hunger Games has already gotten comfy in it’s #3 best opening weekend of all time spot — only to be beaten by Potter and Batman (and who could beat that combo?!) — so it isn’t much of a surprise that we’re hearing that the Jennifer Lawrence starred flick has brought in $214 million globally!
This is the first blockbuster franchise success for Lionsgate, who up until now was a smaller Hollywood studio known for the Saw movies.
Here’s what the editor of BoxOffice.com, Phil Contrino had to say:

“The first movie in a franchise, to post a number like this, is really insane. There is no other word for it. ‘Harry Potter’ had seven movies before it got to that point, and ‘Dark Knight’ had years and years of building the Batman brand. This movie comes and hangs with them in the same league.”

That’s because it’s INcredible!!
Seriously, though — with the buzz and rabid fan base for these books, did anyone expect otherwise?
The REAL test will be to see if it has box office staying power!
