Facebook is not shy with its money, that’s for sure.
Just weeks after buying Instagram for a billion dollars, we’re now hearing that Facebook has just bought Face.com for around $80 million!
Why?
It’s a facial recognition start-up! It’ll put the face in Facebook! Get it?
(We’re sorry about that joke.)
Here’s what the start-up said about it:
“We love building products, and like our friends at Facebook, we think that mobile is a critical part of people’s lives as they both create and consume content, and share content with their social graph. By working with Facebook directly, and joining their team, we’ll have more opportunities to build amazing products that will be employed by consumers – that’s all we’ve ever wanted to do.”
We wonder what this means for Facebook’s guts — will it just be for tagging photos when you upload them, or maybe it will be able to tag photos as you take them?
Either way, we’re translating what they said as, “be prepared to have another new feature you have no say in and have to use on Facebook.”
