Jacintha Saldanha, a trained nurse who was attending to Kate Middleton during her extreme morning sickness, has reportedly committed suicide.
Jacintha was apparently fooled by Australian DJs Michael Christian and Mel Greig via a radio prank into transferring their call to Kate’s private carer, who then divulged confidential information live on air.
Jacintha was helping out on reception at the time.
King Edward VII’s Hospital, where Saldanha had worked for years, confirmed the identity of the nurse and released this statement:
“It is with very deep sadness that we confirm the tragic death of a member of our nursing staff, Jacintha Saldanha.
Jacintha has worked at the King Edward VII’s Hospital for more than four years. She was an excellent nurse and well-respected and popular with all of her colleagues.
We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time.”
Apparently, hospital staff had been supporting Jacintha since the prank phone call has taken place.
Again, so so incredibly sad.
