Ugh, it’s bad enough getting your driver’s license picture taken…just imagine having a bad painting of yourself hanging for all to see!
And poor Kate Middleton might be in that exact situation.
Not exactly what you need when you’re already dealing with a pregnancy.
Artist Paul Emsley didn’t offend the expectant mother when he unveiled Kate├óΓé¼Γäós official portrait at the National Portrait Gallery, but she might be alone with that.
Prince William, Kate and her family weren’t commanding ├óΓé¼┼ôoff with his head├óΓé¼┬¥ after seeing the artwork. Kate kindly commented:
“I thought it was brilliant.”
But not so quick there, future queen.
Art critics had the exact opposite reaction.
Daily Mail art critic Robin Simon was ready to start a feud with his opinion:
“Fortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge looks nothing like this in real life. I├óΓé¼Γäóm really sad to say this is a rotten portrait.”
Ouch!
Maybe he was just bummed out Kate wasn’t showing off her baby bump in her belted burgandy dress at the unveiling?
Despite the harsh words, Paul is standing by his work as he feels he overcame some obstacles in capturing her just right. He said:
├óΓé¼┼ôIf you are working with someone who has whose face is just a lovely face, it’s harder to find something in the portrait that gives it some sort of gravitas. In this case I’ve tried to do that with the smile and the dimples and the shadows around the face.├óΓé¼┬¥
We have to agree, it’s not like the painting looks nothing like her.
Plus, it has to be hard making a painting as beautiful as the Duchess.
Maybe he’ll do better with a painting of their baby next?
Because THAT we want to see!
