Michelle Obama marked the 2-year anniversary of her Let’s Move! campaign this past Friday with a WebMD sponsored town hall discussion at a YMCA in Homestead, Florida.
Along with knowledgable panelists, including fitness expert Jim Kauffman, WebMD Director of Nutrition Kathleen Zelman and pediatrician Dr. Hansa Bhargava, the First Lady discussed how she keeps her family healthy and answered questions from the audience.
├óΓé¼┼ôI remind my kids that a lot of foods out there are healthy. A hamburger is not unhealthy if it├óΓé¼Γäós on a whole wheat bun, grilled and not fried,” she told those in attendance.
Since “dessert is that ├óΓé¼╦£sometimes├óΓé¼Γäó treat,” Michelle limits after dinner treats to the weekends for her girls and encouraged other families to keep snacks simple with food like fruit, trail mix and air-popped popcorn. She also makes sure her kids eat her veggies, no matter what. Zelman recommended trying new approaches to cooking the vegetables that might tickle a child’s taste buds, but Michelle added, ├óΓé¼┼ôSometimes, it├óΓé¼Γäós just, eat your vegetables.├óΓé¼┬¥
The First Lady also makes sure her kids are in bed by a set time every night, limits their television during the week and limit eating out to make sure they aren’t wasting money and calories. As far as her own body goes, she shared that exercise and diet are key for a healthy, balanced life by saying, ├óΓé¼┼ôThe secret is good diet and exercise. Sorry, it just is.├óΓé¼┬¥
She tries to work out every day and recommended either exercising in the morning before work or putting “on your workout clothes — not your pajamas” after you get home so you have motivation to get moving!
Such great advice! Check out more pics of Michelle Obama at the YMCA event below!
