Rock legend Richie Sambora is sober now, and he has his beautiful daughter Ava to thank for it.
The Bon Jovi guitarist survived for years without needing to clean up his act. But when he was prescribed painkillers for an arm injury a few years ago, he just couldn’t get clean. He says:
“I’ve conquered a lot of stuff in my life, but when I tried to get off those things I couldn’t do it… I was drinking too, which makes it double bad.”
But when it came to getting sober, Richie had something to fight for- his daughter. He says:
“She was like an angel to me, man … that was the catalyst for me actually getting sober.”
Fortunately, rehab worked for Richie, and he was able to walk away from his addiction safe and sound. He says:
“Luckily I wasn’t that guy who lost his band, his family, his house and his job. I wasn’t a victim.”
Thank goodness Ava was there to give her dad the strength he needed to get clean! Good job, gurl!
