The shooter behind the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado is looking to avoid the death penalty by changing his plea to “guilty” for the murder of 12 people.
Last time he was on trial, James Holmes and his team failed to enter a plea by their deadline, and the judge was forced to enter a “not guilty” plea by default.
The prosecutors in the case have yet to accept the new offer, and it’s likely they will consult the survivors and families of the victims before making up their minds.
James is currently facing 24 charges of first degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder for his killing spree at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises on July 20, 2012.
His horrific actions currently stand as one of the largest mass shootings in US history, and right now it looks like his fate lies in the hands of the families of his victims.
