What’s awful about this is that we actually like Kirstie Alley — but we will not stand for her getting in the way of people in need getting proper treatment.
We do our best around here to support people making decisions to believe or not in whatever religion they choose, so long as they’re not ruining other peoples’ lives in doing so. We would do that with Scientology too, but Scientology is wack! There’s no way around it! LOLz!
Unfortunately, Kirstie Alley is a Scientologist, and has now started slamming antidepressant ad campaigns because scientologists strongly oppose the use of antidepressants and other drugs meant to treat psychiatric problems. For a religion with the word ‘science’ basically in the name, we can’t help but shake our heads that they would argue against science at all.
Here’s what Kirstie said:

Let’s not forget that Kirstie is an actress and former contestant on Dancing With The Stars, and she has ZERO credibility in this department. She has not studied anything, she has no degrees, and she is literally pulling all of her information from Scientology.
The scary part is that people are listening to her on Twitter!
In regards to Abilify using animation, do people know how big of a deal going on an antidepressant is? A lot of people see it as a failure on a personal level, which is not the case at all. Why wouldn’t a company want to use the most non-threatening way to present such a hard subject?
Let’s also talk about how there are steps to go through to get on Abilify just like any other antidepressant, and 99% of the time it takes talking to professionals and doctors. Barely anyone is self-diagnosing and hitting the streets to find antidepressants! Kids aren’t getting them out of those little plastic eggs in quarter machines! If a doctor recommends that you be on something, you can always get second opinions and have trial periods.
We would hope this was just an April Fool’s joke on Kirstie’s part, because a LOT of lives depend on these medications, whether she chooses to believe it or not! It’s reckless and she should be ashamed, which is VERY hard for us to say, because beyond this we think Kirstie is a fab person, and we’ve always been inspired by her drive and commitment to her craft and her health!
Let’s all start listening to professionals, as depression should never be gambled on!
