Ray Manzarek, the legendary keyboardist of The Doors, passed away Monday afternoon after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer.
The voice and face and bare chest of the band may have been Jim Morrison, but the brains behind the outfit was Ray.
Ray helped give the band several huge hits with his catchy melodies. After Jim’s death, Ray became a solo performer, music producer, and author.
In 2002, Ray reunited with The Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger to continue playing their classics. Robby said:
“I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today.
I’m just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him.”
Through the gift of his eternal music, Ray was a part of our lives, too.
So sad.
