After Jovan Belcher murdered his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins and eventually took his own life, it was unclear what was going to happen to their 9 month-old daughter, Zoey Perkins.
But now a judge in Missouri has finally decided to grant custody of the little one to Sophie D. Perkins, Kasandra’s cousin.
For the past several months, Zoey has been living with Jovan’s mother, who was also seeking guardianship. But for some reason the judge decided to go in a different direction.
Legal documents also showed that the baby will inherit her father’s estate as well as $1 million from the NFL and $1.2 million from a life insurance policy.
We’re glad Zoey finally has a permanent home and we hope for nothing but the best for her and Sophie.
