Johnny Depp shocked many when he announced his split from babymomma Vanessa Paradis. He stunned even more when he stepped out with his lady love Amber Heard.
But we TOTES get why!
In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Amber opened up about taking film roles about “empowered” women, rather than the damsel-types. She said:
“I try to play characters who are somehow empowered or strong… People want to put me in a wedding dress and make me the object of affection, but I’d much rather shoot the gun and save the world. I’ve always fought against what was expected of me as much as I could.”
What’s more, she continued on to discuss her own choice to come out to Hollywood as a bi-sexual:
“I didn’t want to look like I was hiding anything. I’m not, and wasn’t ever, ashamed.”
She later added:
“I don’t imagine myself, my work, or my life, fitting into any kind of standardized path. In fact, the idea of there even being a standard freaks me out a lot.”
Well said, lady!
