The list of designers opting NOT to show at the upcoming New York Fashion Week is getting longer and longer.
In addition to Betsey Johnson, Carmen Marc Valvo and Vera Wang, designers Monique Lhuillier and Naeem Khan won’t be at the February tents.
The two will be staging less expensive ‘presentations’ for their wares.
However, according to Paul Wilmot, who reps both Lhuillier and Khan, the two aren’t pulling their shows for economic reasons.
Wilmot said, “We just wanted to do something different, shake things up a little bit – it’ll sell the clothes differently. ”
A ‘presentation’ will apparently allow press and retailers to get up close and personal with the designers and clothing.
“Before, there’s that one degree of separation — the press and the buyers get a different sense of the clothing when they’re flying past you on the runway as opposed to being able to stand next to them and having the fashion designer talk about the clothes,” said the flack.
Nice spin, Mr. Mouthpiece!
