Oh no. This is terrible and so sad.
An 11-year-old boy from North Carolina who loved the show My Little Pony attempted to commit suicide after bullies at his school relentlessly bullied him for watching the show which they called “gay”.
Michael Morones‘ parents found their son had tried to hang “himself off the side of the bunk bed, off the railing” but were able to get him down and take him to the hospital.
Unfortunately oxygen had been cut off to his brain at that point, and he faces the possibility of long term brain damage.
However, his parents are NOT mad at their son’s tormentors because that wouldn’t keep with the message of the show that their son loved so much.
Michael and a number of other boys and men are fans of My Little Pony for its powerful messages in simple words such as “friendship is magic”. These male fans are called “Bronies”.
This is such a sad story, but Michael’s parents are pretty inspiring people, and their positive energy gives us hope for Michael’s future.
